Intensive Mentoring (6 weeks)            COST: £100

If you're working on a novel, we'll agree which sections you'd like to focus on. You'll send through your work (up to 30 pages in total), We'll comb through it, make suggestions and return it to you. We'll meet in person every 2 weeks for a 1 hour one-to-one workshop (3 in total) to discuss ideas and progress. Between meetings, we'll send you links to resources and local events to keep you inspired.  We'll also have a 24 hour turnaround on any queries you'd like to email. By the end of the 6 weeks, you should have a clear sense of the direction of your work alongside some constructive, tangible and inspiring ideas for future development.

It helped to shift my mindset and was the perfect combination of practical advice, knowledgeable guidance and good old-fashioned hard graft!

OUR MENTORING ETHOS: writing for creative kinship

We believe that life needn't be put on hold to pursue your creative ambitions.  We also think there's nothing like the occasional focused meeting to keep you on track with your writing - and that the best feedback comes from like-minded creative collaboration.  We'll get to know you and the words you write.

We'll read your work, offer constructive criticism, make suggestions and support your vision, whether you're working on a specific project or are venturing out with something new.   With regular feedback, we'll help you stay on track. There's also the option to pair up with another writer on our mentoring scheme, for an added level of peer support.  We want to take arrogance and ego out of the equation, so that you can focus on creating the best writing you are capable of with your individual ambitions in mind.

Please note, Everyday Writes is based in Edinburgh and all mentoring meetings will be held in Edinburgh city centre.  If you live outside Edinburgh and are interested in either of our mentoring courses, please email and we'll see how we can work together via email and phone instead of face-to-face.

PROOFREADING FOR FICTION

£10 per 1000 words, with a 48 hour turnaround.

When you've been staring at the same words for days or even months, it can be hard to objectively edit your work.  With fiction, there are so many complex elements competing for your attention.  We'll focus on the basics, proofreading your story or excerpt and improving spelling, grammar and punctuation.  If you would like help beyond proofreading, please email to discuss copy-editing, or have a look at our mentoring schemes above.

HOW WE WORK:

Our format is simple: honest, constructive engagement and helpful feedback from a professional writer via email or, where meetings are required, in an informal setting in Edinburgh city centre, usually involving coffee.

At all times, we will protect your privacy and your right of ownership over any ideas and writing you share with us.

We are a not-for-profit, community-driven endeavour.   We embrace a DIY attitude and are always open, friendly and encouraging.  We will always strive to ensure our service is accessible to everyone.  You can pay for our mentoring courses in installments and we offer discounts for people on low incomes - just ask.

We want to help you become bold and brave in your own voice. We love stories and will always respond emotionally as a reader.
